The Luxury Land and Lake Lifestyle

Big Canoe, once known as “The Enchanted Land,” is a residential and vacation community started by some of Atlanta’s most renowned developers.

Our Story

The area that is now known as Big Canoe was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, particularly the Cherokee. When European settlers arrived in the 19th century, the region began to transform, reflecting an Appalachian way of life for its new residents.

The concept of Big Canoe as a planned community was introduced in the early 1970s. Developers envisioned a rustic yet upscale retreat that preserved the natural beauty of the land while providing modern amenities.

The name “Big Canoe” was inspired by local Cherokee history and legends, reflecting a desire to honor the area’s indigenous roots.

The Spot

Rich with history and tucked in the scenic foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Big Canoe is a private retreat for people to call home.

Beyond the breathtaking mountains, lakes, wildlife, and plentiful amenities, Big Canoe is a place where people can connect. The community has grown to foster thousands of residences and welcome many vacationers. Big Canoe is so special to some families that it becomes an integral part of their family legacy, and new generations return to honor these traditions.
